The IEEE PELS Wuhan Chapter and the Huazhong University of Science and Technology(HUST)(Wuhan, China)recently hosted the 2025 Asian Ph.D. School on Advanced Power Electronics. Held June 26 through July 1, the school was organized by HUST's School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Technical co-sponsorship was provided by IEEE Power Electronics Society(PELS),the China Power Supply Society(CPSS)and the China Electrotechnical Society(CES).Over 200 participants attended the school, including scholars, students, and industry representatives from both China and abroad who gathered to discuss the latest research achievements and development trends in the field of power electronics.
In-depth lectures were delivered by 10 renowned power electronics authorities, including Prof. Rik W. De Doncker, Prof. Yunwei Li, Prof, Huai Wang, Prof. Dong Jiang, Prof. Josep Guerrero, Prof. Dehong Xu, Prof. Dushan Boroyevich, Prof. Jinjun Liu, Prof. Leo Lorenz, and Prof. Xiongfei Wang. The lecture series encompassed a comprehensive spectrum of topics, including Power Electronic Converters and Topologies, Power Electronic Reliability and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC),Wide-Bandgap Devices and Power Semiconductors, Microgrids and Grid Interconnection Technologies, and Control Strategies for Power Electronic Systems. Collectively, these themes spanned the multi-level architecture of power electronics technology, ranging from device-level fundamentals to system-level integration and application -level implementations.
Held concurrently with the school was the IEEE PELS Day Young Professional Forum. This event invited young scholars, experts, and engineers from renowned domestic and international universities and enterprises. Participants engaged in in-depth exchanges on core topics such as academic research experiences and industrial work practices, sharing insights and lessons from theoretical exploration to technological implementation in power electronics. These exchanges provided cross-disciplinary and multi-level growth references for young professionals. The forum was also part of IEEE PELS Day events.
