➭Program Overview
The China Government Scholarship International Summer School Program organized by the Department of Surgery, The Second Clinical College (Tongji Hospital) of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), aims to provide international students and young professionals with high-level surgical academic training and an opportunity to experience Chinese clinical practice and culture.
Founded in 1900 by German physician Erich Paulun in Shanghai, Tongji Hospital relocated to Wuhan in 1955. Over more than 120 years of development, it has grown into a modern, comprehensive national-level health institution under the management of the National Health Commission, integrating medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, public health and hospital management.
The institution boasts a full spectrum of disciplines, a strong team of excellent doctors, advanced diagnostic and therapeutic technology, state-of-the-art equipment, robust research capability and scientific management methods.
As one of the leading disciplines at Tongji Hospital, the Department of Surgery has established itself as a key flagship surgical discipline, with distinguished faculty including members of China’s academies. This Summer School provides participants with direct access to this high-calibre environment, combining lectures, clinical rotations and hands-on workshops in surgery, supervised by top-tier surgical specialists.

➭Categories of Admission
(1) General Visiting Student – Current undergraduate or master’s degree students.
(2) Senior Visiting Student – Doctoral students, or master’s graduates who are currently employed as university faculty, researchers, or medical professionals.
➭Eligibility Requirements
(1) Basic Requirements:
Applicants must be in good physical and mental health, free from infectious or psychiatric diseases, possess good moral character and no criminal record. They should show interest in Chinese culture, abide by Chinese laws and HUST regulations, and respect local customs.
(2) Citizenship Requirements:
Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens holding valid foreign passports. Former Chinese citizens who have obtained foreign nationality must hold a valid foreign passport for at least 4 years and have lived abroad for at least 2 years within the most recent 4 years (a full 9-month stay abroad in a year counts as one year).
(3) Academic Requirements:
- General Visiting Students: current undergraduate or master’s degree students.
- Senior Visiting Students: doctoral students or master’s graduates and above who are university teachers, researchers, or medical professionals.
