The Center for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (CTCFL), also known as the Chinese Language Center, was founded in 1993 at the Huazhong University of Science and Technology. Our mission is to provide high-quality Chinese language and cultural education to a global community of international students. Over the past three decades, we have welcomed more than 5,000 students from 120 countries.

Our instructional framework is built around a multi-level system (Levels A through G), designed to accommodate learners at all proficiencies. Each level combines compulsory and elective courses. Students typically undertake 20 teaching hours per week (with one teaching hour being 45 minutes) for compulsory coursework. The CTCFL maintains strict regulations regarding student attendance and academic performance. Upon satisfactory fulfillment of these requirements and successful passage of all examinations, students are awarded a Certificate of Completion and an Official Transcript. Furthermore, in alignment with HUST's prominent disciplines, we offer specialized tracks in Medical Chinese and Business Chinese.

HUST offers a variety of Chinese language programs tailored to different needs and duration:

Long-term Chinese Language Program (One Semester/One Academic Year)
This program provides structured Chinese language courses across six proficiency levels (A to F), catering to students from elementary (A, B) and intermediate (C, D) to advanced (E, F) levels. It is designed to comprehensively enhance students' listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, significantly improving their overall communicative competence in Chinese. （Comprehensive Chinese, Chinese Listening, Oral Chinese, Chinese Reading, Chinese Writing, etc.）

3+3 Program (Chinese Language + Internship)
This program combines 3 months of intensive Chinese language study with a 3-month internship at a Chinese company. It is ideal for students seeking to acquire essential Chinese communication skills, gain insights into Chinese culture rapidly, and obtain valuable practical work experience in China. （Elementary Comprehensive Chinese, Business Chinese, Chinese Panorama, Chinese Speaking & Listening, etc.）

Short-term Chinese Culture Program (1-4 Weeks)
This immersive program offers a condensed introduction to Chinese language and culture through a blend of lectures, seminars, and cultural activities. It provides a direct and vivid multi-faceted experience of China, allowing participants to form an objective and enriching impression of its profound culture and dynamic modern society. （Chinese language classes, thematic lectures, cultural visits, etc.）

Cultural activities such as Tai Chi, calligraphy, Chinese painting, paper-cutting, and Chinese culinary classes will be arranged accordingly for all programs.

Admissions are open for both the Spring and Autumn semesters each year. Eligible applicants must be at least 18 years of age and hold a high school diploma or a higher qualification. Applications can be submitted online via: http://admission.hust.edu.cn/.
