A delegation from Grigore T. Popa University of Medicine and Pharmacy (UMF Iasi) visited the School of Public Health at Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) and discussed future cooperation on Nov 12.

Assistant Dean Professor Liu Gang welcomed the guests and outlined the school’s progress in discipline development, research, and teaching, followed by International Affairs Officer Lu Yizhong’s introduction to its international engagement efforts.

Gabriela Cuciureanu, chief secretary to the rector of UMF Iasi and foreign dean of its Confucius Institute, together with Chen Gong, the Chinese dean of the institute, presented UMF Iasi’s academic landscape and the growth of its Confucius Institute.

Both sides agreed that the meeting strengthened mutual understanding and expressed hope for deeper collaboration in faculty and student exchanges, as well as joint academic events.

Founded in 1879, UMF Iasi is recognized as one of Eastern Europe’s leading medical institutions and was Romania’s first medical research university to enter the 2017-2018 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings. Its Confucius Institute, inaugurated on April 25, 2024, is HUST’s first Confucius Institute established in countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), marking a significant step forward in expanding cultural and educational cooperation.
